When searching for ideas to share with colleagues on how to use media arts skills in other subject areas I thought about the skill of photography. Photography is part of the Arts Education, Visual Arts in the BC Curriculum in Grade 11. Through photography, students learn digital citizenship by understanding human, cultural, and societal issues related to technology, and engaging in legal, ethical behaviours and they engage in digital citizenship throughout the photographic process. I chose a video for Vimeo on iPhone Photography. I have attached the link to lesson 1 below. There are 18 lessons in the iPhone Photograph series on Vimeo. A photography club would be a great addition to the LLC and the library makerspace. Students are always on their iPhones, taking pictures and selfies and lessons on how to take great pictures and use their technology for learning would provide more purpose and function to their iPhones. The students could learn photography lessons through the videos on Vimeo, discovering tips to take great photos and then creating videos of the skills and lessons they learned to improve their photography to share with other students. Students can also develop themes to their photos creating video stories using Vimeo or Animoto platforms connecting to literature and music additions. Students could use their photography skills in all subject areas. For example, in a science experiment students can take pictures of each stage of the experiment and develop a video with a voice-over of their learning throughout the experiment.
